Introduction by Salim Al-Aydh
Peter Senge is a senior lecturer at MIT’s Sloan School of
Management, a management consultant, an educational reformer,
and the author of The Fifth Discipline—the book
that launched the concept of a learning organization. He has been
named the “Strategist of the Century” by the Journal
of Business Strategy.
On a personal level, Peter has a deep commitment to helping individuals
and organizations improve their capacity for dialog and coordinated
action. Peter has continued to influence my thinking since I first
met him about three years ago in Egypt. He started me on the journey
of creating a learning organization. I am confident that his insights
and inspiration will help all of us gathering at the Shaybah Café.
Rather than presenting prescriptions and solutions, Peter leads
us to find the answers within ourselves, through inquiry, reflection,
and exploration. He helps us plant the seeds that will, over time,
yield abundant fruit. From my experience, the insights arising
from this process are the most enduring and profound.
My desire for the Shaybah Café is to more deeply explore
the issues and challenges facing us today, and to build a shared
understanding of what we must do. I hope to create the stories
that will be told by our grandchildren.
